Ravenswood sent a team of 40 swimmers to compete at the SMNE Summer Championships, held at SOPAC over the past weekend. Competing against the best swimmers from the SMNE District, our Ravens showed excellent skills and determination in all their races to record some fantastic results. There were a mountain of personal best times recorded, along with NSW Metropolitan, State Age and State Open times achieved. While many swimmers picked up additional qualifying times for State, congratulations to Ava McLean (200m Fly) and Gabi Naumovski (100m and 200m Breast) for achieving their first State Age times for the summer.
Special mention to James Magnussen (50m and 100m Free) and Lewis Blackburn (50m and 100m Back), both setting new meet records in the Men’s 15 years and over age group. Our team of Ravens came away from the weekend with 5 Gold, 4 Silver and 7 Bronze; as well as a whopping 31 top 10 places.
Congratulations to our medal winners:
Gold – Lewis Blackburn (2), James Magnussen (2), Chloe Small
Silver – Chloe Small (2), Jack Edie, Alicia Walker
Bronze – Clare Robertson (2), Chloe Small (2), Lewis Blackburn, Andrew Newling, Grace Roberts
Congratulations to our top 10 place getters:
Kayla Barnard, Lewis Blackburn (3), Charlotte Block, Jack Eddie, Ashley Halfpenny (2), Peter Hoang, Maddie Huyskens, Ben Kim, Freya Lennon, Josh Li (2), Eli Malkin, Ava McLean (2), Chloe Mudadu (3), Gabi Naumovski, Jess Needham (2), Andrew Newling (2), Tiana Pendray (2), Grace Roberts, Lucy Vince, Ned Waddington, Alicia Walker
Our Ravenswood relay teams showed their strength across the weekend with 2 second placings (Lewis, Peter, Jack, Alex, Andrew, Keegan, George), 2 third placings (Alex, Mitch, Nick, Peter, Jess N, Freya D, Chloe M, Sophie) and a further 6 top 10 placings (Ned, George, Braden, Keegan, Clare, Jess E, Lily, Alicia, Eli, Gabi, Chloe S, Amelia, Chloe M, Kaitlyn, Charlotte, Jess N, Ashley, Isabella, Ava). The highlight of the relays was the show-down between the ‘Oldies’ and ‘Youngies’ in the Men’s 13 and over Freestyle relay. The ‘Oldies’ team of Mitch, Nick, Alex and Pete were quietly (mostly loudly) confident they could defeat the ‘Youngies’ team of Andrew, Lewis, Keegan and George. Sensational team racing from the younger quartet, saw them narrowly get the win by less than a second from the ‘Oldies’, who will be training hard for a rematch in the near future!
Thank you again to all the parents that gave their time over the weekend to assist with the running of the meet. Congratulations to all the swimmers on a successful weekend of racing; see you all back at training, gearing up for a successful NSW State Age campaign.
