Over the weekend of June 18th and 19th a group of 26 students participated in the Swimming Metro North East (SMNE) Winter Championships at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.

The Saturday morning started off with 200m Time Trials where swimmers who did not have a time could enter the event to achieve a time in their preferred event. This is a new concept from SMNE of which was well received from Ravenswood members saw some swimmers get out of their comfort zone to achieve competitive times in their events.

The championships started just after lunch on Saturday and the team was in full swing. Across the weekend the team achieved many new personal bests, Metropolitan and State Age qualifying times as well as quality head to head racing.

Race Reflection Tree

A team challenge was set for Ravenswood Swimming Club members at the championships where the swimmers were required to supply the coaches and their fellow team mates feedback on their races. The “Yellow Leaf” was for something in the race that went well or the swimmer was happy with and the “Blue Leaf” was for something that did not go to plan or can be improved for the next time they race the event. This challenge forced the swimmers to be critical in their self-assessment of the race to ultimately grow from the experience and to take ownership of the race and result. The outcome of the challenge has produced a fully mature tree with wonderful pieces of feedback of which all swimmers in the program will be able to read and to relate too on pool deck at Ravenswood.

The coaches were asked many questions by opposing teams as to what we were doing and they too were impressed with the challenge.

Congratulations to all our swimmer who achieved a top three placing.
